I was recently informed that November (that’s right now) is peanut butter lovers month. I learned of this through NowPublic, a participatory news network. I haven’t spent much time on the site yet, but it does seem interesting. You can read more about what November means and see a photo that I posted a few months ago here.
NW Dog Situation
Ashlinn found a dog yesterday in Portland. 
She posted a Found ad on Craigslist. The dog is very friendly and has already learned how to sit and lay down. Ashlinn thinks it doesn’t know English. If you know someone who lost a dog that matches this one, please give her a call!
BrickCon ’08 Update
As I said in a previous posting, I attended this year’s BrickCon, a yearly festival to display custom Lego creations. I couldn’t find my camera to import the photos I took, until now, so here they are.

Top 5 Reasons LOST is Better Than Fringe
1. LOST has a contingency plan: If you need a character to do or feel something, just throw in a flashback. I’m not saying they invent stuff just to save their asses, but they’ve always got the option. Fringe characters are two dimensional, and haven’t progressed since episode one. I can’t wait for the reveal that Peter is Walter’s clone, or Olivia Dunham is actually just an experiment that fits into The Pattern.
2. LOST knows it’s audience. They have such an established fan base, and know what they want and what they will accept. Honestly, if a bomb drops in the Lost world, it’s like somebody tells me that they can levitate, and then they do it. They tell me that green is red and tripods have 4 legs. It’s mind boggling.
I don’t think Fringe has found it’s audience yet ( or any audience really. HEY-OH!) I think it’s too early for them to really know who is going to stay committed to this show. Is this show going to become a weekly celebration, or is it something people will catch if their real favorite show is a rerun? But who knows, Dancing with the Stars is the number two ranked show, and there are three CSI within the top 15. TV sucks a lot.
3. Not every episode of LOST ends with a conclusion. This is such an important aspect of LOST. Weeks can go by without a resolution. I’m sure a lot of people would complain about this, and it probably keeps new viewers from really getting into it, but I think it’s one of the most crucial factors of the story arc.
Sadly, Fringe finds it more important to tidy nearly everything up at the end of an episode, with nothing but hints to a link between each of the episodes mysterious plots. So far, I’m failing to see where this is going to go, but they are only on episode 6. (Note: LOST was already in the caves and Jack was seeing his father on the island by the end of episode 6!)
4. Everybody loves a tale of survival. Maybe I like these stories more than other people, but surviving in dire circumstances is the grounds for a great story. When everything seems to be working against the protagonist, and he or she never looses sight of what they need to accomplish you connect with them on a different level. At no point have I ever feared for or connected with Agent Dunham.

University of California, Irvine
UCI is probably best known as the second youngest California university and the educational epicenter of Orange County. Others may know it more for having amazing skatespots. It is home to many stylized ledges and park quality handrails with large amounts of run up and pristine concrete. The best example of the skating is in Heath Kirchart’s part from Sight Unseen, seen below.
Also, there are a few shots at UCI from his part in the Emerica video.
Now, what few people know is that UCI was also the main location for Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. The entire opening scene was filmed in the same location as Heath’s skating. That’s pretty cool, but it’s also amazing to think that a college that was only 6 years old at the time of filming allowed the crew to shoot a huge amount of scenes there. Very impressive. I couldn’t find this scene online, but the ledges and handrails are visible in the trailer and a screenshot below.

OH SNAP!
Friends, you know how I feel about Dunkin’ Donuts. They are a true East Coast company that strives to delivery coffee and donuts that blue collar Americans want. I wanted to share with you the first commercial from Dunkin’ Donuts new ad campaign that stops tip-toeing around the point. Dunkin’ Donuts coffee is much better than Starbucks, and Americans agree. The actual survey was done in Boston, New York, Chicago, Seattle and L.A. and Dunkin Donuts came out on top with 54%.

A letter to Tina Fey:
Tina, we need to talk. The election is getting very close. You’re confused. If you vote for McCain and he wins, you’ll be guaranteed more work on SNL representing VP Sarah Palin. I must assure you that it’s not worth it. Maybe I should send you that cool MoveOn.org video with your name in it. Most importantly, if Barack does win, and Sarah Palin mysteriously becomes unfunny, and your Emmy winning show gets cancelled, I can promise you plenty of re-occuring roles in my new online series “Adam and Tina Fey Hug Hour.”

And I Hope You Like Jammin’ Too
It may sound a little “fruity” (sorry, couldn’t resist), but I finally took advantage of the wild invasive Himalayan blackberries that have been plaguing the northwest region. Make jam is actually about as easy as making Ramen, which is where my cooking ability starts to taper off. Believe it or not, I didn’t even use the full amount of sugar that the recipe recommended, and it’s still pretty sweet. Jam turned out to be a very budget friendly thing for me to make, which most of you know is how I roll.
On a totally unrelated topic, I attended BrickCon 2008 a few weeks ago. You may be able to assume, it’s a convention dedicated to Lego creations. I got a few good pictures, but my camera is in Ashlinn’s glove box. I’ll post them soon.
